I offer several different services, please email me if you don’t see what you need listed below. My editing services do include proofreading (fixing errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation), but that’s a small part of the process. As I edit, I also consider audience expectations, tone, word choice, clarity, logic, etc. I use marginal comments to offer feedback. These comments highlight words or ideas that may confuse your readers, or pose questions that your readers may want answered. I provide itemized invoices through PayPal or Wave.
My Services and Rates
- For copy-editing of academic papers/essays, journal articles, book chapters, theses, dissertations, and presentations, my rates typically range from $50 to $70 (USD) per 1000 words, depending on the document’s condition, complexity, and deadline. Rush jobs (4000+ words/day) are subject to an additional 20% charge. Estimates are free.
- For copy-editing fiction, either academic or non-academic, my rates typically range from $40 to $60 per 1000 words, depending on the document’s condition, complexity, and deadline. For projects where I have subject-matter expertise, I also offer developmental editing, typically at $60 to $80 per 1000 words.
- For proofreading fiction, either academic or non-academic, my rate is $35 per 1000 words. Please note that proofreading only covers mechanical errors in spelling, punctuation, or grammar– it does not include attention to sentence structure, argument strength, or paragraph/section organization.
- For developmental editing of personal statements, resumes/CVs, and cover letters, my standard rate is $150/hour (USD). These rates include advice on audience, tone, and self-presentation, and many clients find it helpful to add consulting services. As with my academic rate, rush jobs are subject to an additional 20% charge.
- For business documents, such as memos, reports, professional emails, websites, and marketing materials, I generate estimates on a job-by-job basis. The per-word rates are typically similar to my academic editing rates, but some clients prefer to negotiate hourly rates, especially for proofreading long documents.
- Consulting Service add-ons – such as virtual meetings through Google Meet – start at $50 for half an hour and go up based on need/complexity of the discussion. Please email with particulars for a free estimate.
